Inner-lid vs outer-lid — a real design choice
Outer-lid cookers (the lid sits on top) are the traditional Indian design, generally robust and easy to clean. Inner-lid cookers (lid fits inside) seal differently and some cooks find them easier to open one-handed. Both are safe when properly certified; it comes down to preference and what you're used to.
Aluminium vs stainless steel
Aluminium cookers (many Pigeon and Prestige models here) heat faster and cost less; stainless steel (Hawkins triply, Prestige Svachh) is more durable, easier to keep clean, and doesn't react with acidic food. Hard-anodised sits in between. Match the material to how heavily you'll use it.
Capacity should match your household, with headroom
A cooker is only filled to about two-thirds when cooking rice/dal that expands, so size up from your serving needs. 2-3L suits 1-3 people; 5L+ suits larger families or batch cooking. Buying too small means cooking in multiple batches.
